C's Dolls Quilt Finished.

I realized yesterday (thank you all for the birthday wishes!!!) as I was downloading the photos from the camera I hadn't posted photos of C's dolls quilt finished. I forgot to measure it before it was wrapped and handed to the birthday girl. It turned out a bit bigger than the size of a pillow case. C's Mum has told me that she uses it as a little quilt on her bed.

These blocks have had quite a journey to get into this quilt. At first they were going to be for this quilt! Half of them ended up in this quilt. Now I just have a few more to maybe make one more quilt out of. 4 quilts from one WIP, not bad!

Happy Mother's Day to Me!

It is Mother's Day tomorrow but I got my pressie today! Ta Daaaaa! My new sewing machine trolley so I can carry my machine to my monthly Patchwork and Quilting Group in style. Of course I had to buy it myself and have it posted up here myself, I refused to wrap it though!

Today was our sewing day so I got to use it. I freaked at first cause I thought my machine didn't fit, but you have to take the cover off the machine to get it in the trolley! d'oh!

So I worked on today a quick dolls quilt top for a friend of Milly's who is having a 5th birthday party next week. I took these blocks left over from Milly's Log Cabin Quilt and trimmed them down to 5 inches. Just wanted it to be big enough to wrap around a doll or teddy.

Sashed them in white and here it is all done, ready to sandwich and then quilt. I am thinking simple straight white lines. Or maybe pink?

WIP Wednesday - Sarah's Quilt Finished.

I have discovered in the jungle that is our backyard, part of the fence has some wire hung on it which makes a handy place to hang a quilt when finished. I'll admit being out in the backyard scares me, there is always a rustling in the leaves. Wouldn't be a snake, just a lizard...

So on Saturday I avoided watching Garfield, thank goodness. I finally let the girls watch the second Harry Potter movie, they have been nagging me for months. I figured if I said yes at last, they would sit quietly so I could get the binding on. And my plan worked!

So I am all done. Just have to wait for the lady in question to have her baby and name her, so I can do the label.

I love the back.

And a close up of the stippling. I have already unpicked the white around the remaining 4 blocks for the next quick whip it together baby quilt.

A New Baby Quilt.

I turned over the calendar this morning to realize a friend is due with her second daughter in 5 days! I knew it was sometime in March. So I thought I would recycle an old quilt top. Last time I talked about this quilt was back here. It was to be for Matilda's bed but seeing as though she now has the Wonky Houses I thought I would attack it. I unpicked the top and bottom rows to leave me with a big 4 patch! I then sewed a 2.5 inch strip around the edge, in pink. Wolah, top complete!

For the backing, I thought I'd sew together some of the smaller blocks, trimmed them down to 5.5 inches......

.... then sashed them in some white and.....

..... then raided the backing stash for this plain, safe purple and white spots. Everything was from the stash, I am seeing how far into this year I can get without buying fabric, 2 months down, 10 to go! We'll see.

Then the fun part, sandwiching it on the tiles in front of the wrap up of the Winter Olympics. It's now drapped over the ironing board, ready to quilt!

My Creative Space.

There is a meme doing the rounds at the moment, sharing your creative space. We have moved house in the last few months and 80% of our possessions are in storage, packed ready for our adventure next year, where that will be we still don't know. Placements go out towards the end of term 4. Fingers crossed for here or here! In the meantime we are living at my In Laws house and I have taken over the "Formal Lounge" as my Creative Space or as I like to call it, "The Sewing Nook".

It is messy at the moment. I am sewing pink and purple wonky log cabins for the outside border of Milly's quilt. I'm hoping, rather dreaming to have it finished by the 1st of November for her 5th birthday. I'm trying to use up scraps. AJ, recognize any that you sent over?

So far I have 16. Unsure how many exactly I will need....

I have sewn a 4 inch border between these blocks I finished back here in June. I'm planning to sew another 4 inch border all the way around the outer edges and then work out how many smaller log cabins I need......

Other people sharing their Creative Space can be found here.

WIP Wednesday - Week 27 - More of Miss Milly Moo's Quilt

I have finished four more blocks for Milly's Quilt. I think though they need another round of logs added to them though, just to make them a little bigger. And I have to order some of this white as I don't have enough in my stash. Looking good though. When I was laying these blocks on her bed for the photo, Milly walks in and says "what you doing Mummy?" and I replied "seeing how your quilt will look on your bed." And she answered "your making a quilt for me?" The element of suprise and amazement in her voice was like but you never sew quilts for me?!! Well Milly Moo, this one is for you!

I had a great suprise yesterday morning when I went out to pull the recycling bin out to the kerb after hearing the truck in the next street and realizing Daz had only put the normal rubbish bin out. A parcel from The Fat Quarter Shop had arrived and the dog hadn't barked to alert me! They had 40% off Kaffee the other week so I got 5.5 yards of the above. Just in time for me to use the deep purple in Milly's quilt maybe.

And a magazine and a Swanky honey bun roll. 40 x 1.5 inches wide strips. So nicely packaged, I'm not taking it out the plastic till I sew this one. I have it earmarked for a Chinese Coin quilt for a friends baby coming out later this year, make a change from all the pink and purple happening around here lately.

Milly's Quilt... the Beginning!

At last I have started sewing a quilt for Milly's bed. It has been on my To Do List for awhile and now I have officially started. I was originally thinking a Stacked Chinese Coins, simple but effective, have never sewn one..... But then it all changed directions and I thought wonky log cabins? The girls will be in bunks soon and then they'll sort of match, both having log cabin quilts. Note the word sort of..... rainbow colours and 2 inch strips for Grace's verses pink and purple on with wonky strips. But they are at least log cabins!

So I pulled the above fabric from the stash. Thinking light to dark, pink on one side, purple on the other, framed by white and then smaller log cabin blocks down the sides.

Something like this? These are the first 4 blocks. There will be 8 for the top, about 16 inches square each, roughly. I'll frame each with a white border, about 4 inches? Not the most practical colour for a 4 year old but I love the crispness of white.

Here's my favourite. Onto the next four!

Wonky Squares

I'm thinking about making a quilt for Milly's bed with wonky square blocks. Spent a few hours today having a play with these. Pinks and purples on white I think. These would trim down to 8.5 inches.

Not starting till after Christmas!
