WIP Wednesday #4 - Binding Perfection!

I couldn't have done this if I tried! Look at that corner, the chevron points in the corners match up perfectly, I couldn't believe it when I flipped it over after sewing the binding on. So I have the binding on ready to hand sew down. Instead of doing that though, I decided to sandwich a table runner top and quilt it for a work colleague who is leaving town next week. Two projects on the go at once? Crazy stuff!

WIP Wednesday - Yellow Binding.

Well this quilt was sitting at the Post Office waiting paitently when we returned from the Gibb. I have finally trimmed it, sewn together two plus metres of yellow binding and sewed it on! Now just to finish sewing it down..... the end is soooo close!

Rainbow Binding.

My Rainbow Squares quilt arrived back from the long arm quilter on Monday. It looks fantastic, I'm very happy with it. It's just a paisley flower all over pattern in white, but looks effective.

Now the binding..... The conversation went sort of like this between Daz, my Mum who is staying with us for a few weeks and myself. White? Hmmm, maybe not, no defined edge. Black then? No, too stark. Grey? Ekk, all that colour and frame it with a boring old grey? Okay, how about a scrappy rainbow? That might work..... I listened to my mother as anyone who has till Friday 7am to finish it because she wants to enter it in the local show would do!

So here is the action shot sewing the binding onto the quilt. I thought Lynne would like to see a shot of the background too! I don't usually sewing at the dining room table, but this quilt is so big, I dragged the machine down to the room for the task. Now to set my Mum to the chore of sewing the binding down for me. I usually love that job but am running out of time!

Binding and more binding today. 300 inches of red all rolled up ready for action on Milly's Wonky House Quilt.

And orange for this hanging. Christmas present #1 nearly struck off the list.

WIP Wednesday - Strippy Binding - And a Worthy Winner!

I have finished quilting this Stacked Coin baby quilt. I used a pale pink polyester thread, ek, never again. The colour is lovely, it works well, but being a cheap and nasty brand it broke everytime I got any speed up on the machine. So there was twice as many threads as usual to sew in. Oh well.... Just pinning down the binding and then ready to hand sew in place. Then I can turn my attention to my next project, a little swap with the lovely Lynne!

Thank you for all the lovely comments. I'm working my way through answering them all. I wish I had 130 quilts to give away. Interestingly enough, about a third of the comments had their reply set up to "no reply blogger". Which means if you leave a comment on someones blog they can't email you back to reply to that comment. Some people may prefer it that way or some may not just realize that they haven't got their email linked up to receive email responses. Lisa wrote a great post back here on how you can check. She explains it better than I could!

Sewing Bee Sunday!

Daz had to work today so with him out the house, Ad decided to drive the 73kms up and Mum decided to drive the 15 kms down and we had a girls only sewing day! Set up the pool in the backyard, the girls alternated between splashing in it and then coming inside and watching Wall-e. Meanwhile the grown ups sewed and sewed and sewed!

I finished all the machine sewing needed on Grace's Rainbow Log Cabin. Binding is added, I did 3 more "tram track" lines of quilting around the very edge. Easier said than done, that took ages! And then zig zagged the binding. Mum and Ad looked at me strange when they saw this. I have been doing it for awhile and thought it was the normal thing to do. It makes the edge crisper when you are sewing the binding down, you can feel the actual edge better. Does this sound weird? Am I the only zig zagger before binding person out there? I'm sure I picked it up as a tip off the internet somewhere...... works for me!

Then because the afternoon was still young I dragged out these Dissappearing 9 Patch blocks I last worked on back here, September 2007. I sewed them into rows of 3 and then 4 rows together and then popped on a 5.5 inch Lakehouse white on white spot border and wolah, quilt top for a baby girl! 2009 is shaping up for year of girlfriends having babies or have already had them. A few spare quilt tops hanging around wouldn't hurt. I don't know if its cause the blocks are old but I feel a bit ho hum about this so far. I thought the white would add some zest to it but hmmmmm, don't think so, not yet. I'll have to let the quilting bring it to life.

Work In Progress Week 28 - Boring Binding

Word of the week here straight from Miss Grace "I'm 4 and a big kindy kid" is boring. Everything is boring, said in a whingy tone saying watch out when I'm 13! And so that describes exactly todays WIP! Boring old binding!

I have two projects on the go. Doing the binding of Elliott's pinwheel quilt, below. I have three sides done. And also the dissappearing 9 patch started last week. I have finished all the quilting on this, amazing how fast it all falls together when you don't do "fancy" quilting! Also I have overlocked the edges of the quilt once the binding is attatched, which so far seems to help the edges lay flat. Either that or I am being a bit more careful with my measurements. I ended up going for a yellow binding too on this one as didn't have anything suitable in the dark blue department.

Bring on the binding!

Have had a massive two days finishing off the machine quilting, all finished tonight! Here's my machine in action from yesterday!! Must admit I have been a bit boring and just done a straight stitch. Could have got adventurous I suppose and done some kind of flowery swirl but I always think I might mess it up!


Even sewn the binding on, just have to iron it down then pin in place and I can hand sew it. Love doing that bit, sit in front of the telly in peace when the girls are asleep. Reaching the stage where I can start thinking about the next project.... Have 3 girlfriends due early next year and also another girlfriend is turning 40, so have some serious sewing coming up!
