The Pink!

I had a very early knock on the door and a thump of parcel hitting the doormat this morning which always causes great excitment! It was my swap quilt from the Monochromatic 4 Seasons challenge. I opened the package to find this beauty titled "The Pink" from Marlene, and I was blown away with it! It is just stunning! My colour of choice was pink and my season was Spring. Marlene had even sewn a hanger in the back so I could immediately hang it on some dowel and take these snaps in the backyard. I have to rearrange some wall space to find a spot for it inside, its getting to the too many quilts, not enough walls stage....

I just read on Marlene's blog that the flowers here was a photograph that she printed out onto EQ fabric sheets, its amazing, I wouldn't have realized that at all. Love the quilting detail, its just beautiful.

This bit is my favourite! Little bubbles!! I think I have found the answer to my quilting for the little birds in a tree quilt I was pondering in my last post. I'm going to give this a try.

4 Seasons Monochromatic Challenge Dolls Quilt Finished!!

I have finished my dolls quilt for the 4 Seasons Monochromatic Challenge Dolls Quilt Swap. Finally sewn the label on......

I called it Summer Poppies. Hope my partner likes it, she is rather a traditional kinda quilter. I quilted swirls to represent flames at the bottom which you can see more on the backing.

My favourite bit is the quilting in the white around the flowers. I like that! This swap was a challenge, I found it harder to work with one colour than what I thought it would be..... Thats the aim of a challenge I suppose!

Onto the next dolls quilt swap now!

WIP Wednesday - Week 8 - Quilting Monochromatic!

I’ve put together the top for the monochromatic 4 Season’s Doll Quilt Swap this week. It has been hanging on the design wall just begging for 30 minutes of attention to do this! Started the quilting today, lots of turning around the wonky flowers and then I am thinking in the white, some stippling with little stars? And then in the main red area, swirly free motion quilting to suggest flames. That was my idea at the start of this project and then with the recent sad events in Victoria I thought hmmmm, maybe not?

Talking of bushfires, here is some binding ready to post to Tia for the Bushfire Quilts, just over 1,350 inches!

WIP Wednesday - Week 4 - The start of 4SDQS#5, Monochromatic Challenge.

Before Christmas I signed up for the Four Season Quilt Swap #5 (Known as 4SDQS#5 from now on!). I like swaps organized by Margaret, she runs a good, well organized swap. It is a Monochromatic Challenge and challenge is the right word! My colour is red and the season is obviously summer. I can use a bit of black and white, I was hoping to avoid the usual summer cliche images, like sunsets, suns, pointy triangles etc and have come up with something which still says summer, I hope....

I was thinking of one of my improv flowers but it just wasn't working so then I thought a Jan Mullen inspired rose/poppy. Sort of poppies in the red dirt...... We'll see. I'm only working on one of these instead of 2008's habit of two.

Spring is hung!

I have finished the hanger and hung this swet little quilt. 1, 2, 3..... awwwwwww! Looks great hey? Once again thank you Fiona. Its lovely, hope I score as well on the Summer round of the 4 Seasons Quilt Swap. Milly likes to stand on her bed, point at it with her finger and go "the bee goes round and round and round and round and stops there!"
