Deers on Cyan and Orange!

See the little white deer on the cyan background and also the same print in an orange? I have wanted to sew something with this fabric for ages! It's "cutesy woodland folk" which is so not my usual style! So I decided to incorporate it into one of these wonky bento boxes which I have done before with success.

The result was this baby quilt which I finished the binding on this week.

The back was fun to complete as much as the front. A great way to use up those scraps made from cutting the front blocks.

Did my standard up and down texture. Now I have my new thread quilting is a breeze. It is already wrapped up for it's new home.

WIP Wednesday - A Finished Quilt Top.

I think my sewing mojo may be returning. Fingers crossed.... I have finished the quilt top of the blue and orange squares started back in. I have some blue scraps left over for the backing. It measures about 36 inches square, perfect for the lap of a baby boy due just before Christmas.

Sunday Sewing

 

I did some sewing today. Don't fall off your chair! Just some simple square in squares. Going to do nine of them to make up a simple baby quilt. And of course I realized how much I have missed sewing once I got started, so I am going to try and do just a little bit every few days. Try to anyway....

Blue and Orange Square Baby Quilt Finished.

I finished sewing down the binding and the label on this quilt last night. There are so many documentaries on the Titanic at the moment on telly, I have been watching and sewing.

It measures 32 x 44 inches. I am a bit dissappointed with how the quilting has dragged down that strip of light blue at the top. Its not so noticeable in real life, but as always photos make it look worse than it is! Makes me wonder if I had just stippled it would it have been like this?

It has been a great stash buster quilt.

Best get it in the mail before this baby gets any bigger!

Blue & Oranges Square Quilt Finshed.

I finished the binding on my Blue and Orange Square quilt last night. Looks pretty hot from this angle hey?

But not so hot when straight on and the artiness of a fancy angle can't hide the flaws I see. The drag down in the middle row, ekkk! The suggestion of going down and then rotating the quilt for the next line to go down in the opposite direction, for me, that just didn't work. Most of the quilting here is sewing down to the bottom, few reverse stitches, snip, then taking the quilt back up to the top, sewing down to the bottom, repeat, repeat, repeat! If I had gone for a good old boring stipple I would have been in love with this but I thought straight stitching would be so easy. Next time I try it I won't go for white sashing where it looks so obvious! Increasing my stitch length to 3.5 from 3 did help though and also supporting the quilt more instead of letting it drap, that also helped. Thank you for those wise comments blog readers!


These were two of my favourite blocks.... Well now to turn my attention back to my swirling quilting that I haven't touched since here.

WIP Wednesday - Straight Quilting.

I finished this quilt top on the weekend. I sandwiched it on Monday and now have started quilting it. Going for plain straight quilting. I have always admired this type of quilting when I have seen it, but never attempted it. Something though is not quite right and I can't work out why. The quilt top is moving down when I quilt it. So is that a result of not pulling it taunt enough when sandwiching it? I have a brand new walking foot and my foot pressure is set as high as it can, so I refuse to believe that is the cause. Or am I just being pedantic? Is that just an effect of the quilting? I don't know whether to just leave it and keep going or get out my unpicker....

WIP Wednesday - Blue and Orange Squares.

Ever since completing the Blue Squares Quilt, I have been itching to do another. So I have very bravely unrolled one of my Kona Solid Rolls and taken the blue and orange out along with some of my stash and been randomly sewing squares...... These will be 9.5 inches finished. It is great using the strips from the roll, easy peasy. I have run out of room to put them on my design wall in my sewing area, so I have stuck them to the door of the sewing room!
