Giveaway Day!

Giveaway day is here! This is the mini quilt I have made up for offer. All free pieced. Quilted on my whiz bang new machine. I even cut up some of my new Hope Valley! Can't get more special than that.

It measures 10 x 20 inches. I'll close entries on Friday evening. I'm happy to post international. All you have to do is leave a comment, but I was thinking I might do some market research at the same time. So in your comment, tell me how much you would pay for a wall hanging quilt like this? $40? $60? $80? $100? (Talking Australian $$'s.) I'd be curious to know. Thanks. :)

Check out all the other giveaways on offer here. There are 3 lists, check them all out. Good luck!!!

Wow, I just love the vibrant colors! I would probably $60 for a wall hanging.

What a cute wallhinging! On price, I don't know anything about Australian dollars, so I don't know what to say!!!
Thanks for a great giveaway.

Xena said...

love it. I would pay $60

Shari said...

I just love this! You are really inspiring me and I can't wait to get back in to my sewing room (probably June). QuiltWest is on the go with the set-up of the quilt stands today - we have about 80 to 85 to erect and that's a lot of up and down ladders and nuts and bolts! It's funny because it takes half a day to set up but only a couple of hours to breakdown.

It's hard to value mini-quilts. I would imagine it would depend on topic and where it would be displayed. Car-boot sale you'd be lucky to get $20-30. But in an up-market tourist area you may get $60 to $80.

Good luck and have fun with your giveaway!

Cheers
Shari

Love how this turned out! I think probably around the $50 mark for a mini quilt.
THanks for the chance to win it.

♥love it♥ what a phenomenal giveaway prize!!

Pricing I would say is $50 american dollars which is $56 Australian. Unless of course you are in the art markets in major city, then you might rake in double.

Kelly said...

It's gorgeous Helen! hopefully my finger and toes crossing will help me out with this one ;)
I'm thinking between $50 and $60 for a wall hanging, possibly more.

Katie Bishop said...

This one is beautiful! I would love to win it! I think I would pay $75 Us for that. Wonderful!

Vicki W said...

I would think that about 80 - 100 usd would be about what people would pay. That's 88 - 110 AUD. What I don't know is if that's a fair price based on the time and materials. Also, since I don't make things to sale I really don't know what the current market is.

Unknown said...

What a cute quilt!! A terrific item for a giveaway. I have to agree with Vicki about the dollar amount. Definitely between 80 - 100 USD for sure.

Sara said...

I have no idea how much it is worth, but it's great! It turned out adorably!

Erin M. said...

I try small quilts every once in awhile and have had no luck making them look good with just the right proportions and colors, but this is really cute. I could see it selling for $40 US. (That's probably doesn't account well for the hours put into it though.)

Anonymous said...

I love it Helen, so cute........ I'd pay $60-80 for it though probably closer to 60 than 80

Leah said...

$50 maybe? I don't really know... I did not pay $180 for one at an exhibition last year, despite it having an international prize winning maker, and me absolutely loving it....

Rosey said...

What an amazing wall hanging - I would defiantly say at least $80!!!
I just had to say you a real inspiration - I love logging on and admiring all your work!!!

Andi said...

I'm the kind of girl who would probably not buy a mini quilt, opting to make my own.
But I think it would be worth in the range or $80 to $100.
But it's hard to find people who recognize all the work that gores into a little piece like that.

Carmel said...

It's gorgeous-love the fabric, colours and design and would probably pay $60 for it :)

Millie said...

Hi Sweetie! I like that wavy quilting! I think it's worth $100 USD.

I'd trade you a quilt for it!
hahaha! PMSL!

SoozeM said...

Wow it's gorgeous, just love the colors! I don't know how to put a price on it, I always think it's just too hard to compete with the mass produced market, most people just don't appreciate handmade!

Vicki said...

It's beautiful! If I was selling something this size, I would put the price around $40 USD.

Unknown said...

I agree that it is so hard to put a price on things like this. I guess if I had to name a figure I would say around $60. But if I fell completely in love with one and it was a *must have* for room decoration I would pay $100-$120.
I like to think of them as little works of art and if I would pay that for art on paper why not for quilty art.

aSprinkling said...

I love it! I have a little girl who would really love it! And, honestly, I'm a cheapskate and probably wouldn't purchase something like this. But I might would try to make one. :)

Cristin said...

for THIS mini-quilt... I'd pay $60(US) for sure... sorry, don't know what that is in Australian dollars.
Its gorgeous though!

Poppyprint said...

I wanna live in a rocket house. I'd settle for looking at this one on my wall, tho. I love it. It's so hard to make any $ back on our time with quilting, but for it's size, I'd go with about $50, I think.

Thanks for the giveaway!!! Come visit mine, too!

bellsjo said...

Be still my beating heart! It is beautiful! Thank you so much for the chance to win such a beauty. As for price? Humm.... tricky. Probable around the $60 dollar mark.

What a wonderful quilt...

I just think handmade stuff is often priceless...

Warmest regards

That's awesome! I've been thinking up some wonky house block ideas, and you've inspired me. Have no idea about pricing, since I'm shamefully ignorant of the current US/AU exchange rate.

Edna said...

What a great little piece! I would think it should be well worth $50 to $60. It has real charm and great colors too.

Alissa said...

I would have to say $60, like the others!

How cute is the wall hanging! Someone will be a very lucky person!

My first thought was $60 (CAD).

What a sweet wallhanging; I'd love to have it join my other little wallhanging in my office!

I'd pay anything for a quilt that I'm in love with... Its not just for the work, but for all the love and efforts that go into the making of a quilt... My views weren't always like this, i used to think spending more than USD 50 on a quilt was outrageous... but ever since i took up quilting myself, i realized how much love you really have to put into it... is has to be priceless...
Thanks for the giveaway...

Samantha Marshall said...

I love this gorgeous quilt, Helen. I makes me feel so happy when I look at it.

Nina Lise@Mrs Moen said...

Love the quilt and the happy colours!

karen said...

Beautiful quilt!
I'd say that I would pay $50-60. but then since I craft, I'd just try to make my own.
I do think that's a fair (though inexpensive) price.

Jan said...

Your mini quilt is scrumptious and would look great above the dining room table. If I win it I promise to look after it very well.
It is difficult to price such works of art but I reckon I would pay between $50-$60 for it.
Of course this in no way represents the time, effort and love that has gone into the making of this darling quilt.

Neen said...

It is lovely - I have wanted to learn patchwork for a long time ... will do so one day - if I ever put the crochet hook down :)
I think it would sell really well -I think you could get $60-80 (after commision) in a good arts and craft shop.

angelina said...

i'm currently broke,...but i think someone with money would pay say, 30 or 40? its really nice!
thanks for the chance to win!

That is a Special give away! I think that it would go for $80. I have a friend that gets things for me and it's very expensive there so I don't get things often. I'm also doing a give away and I'll post a link to you!

anissa ljanta said...

i work occasionally in a shop that would sell something like your beautiful for 100 nz easy...not sure what the exchange is across our ditch?! Thing is, you decide what feels right to you and then find the market to pitch it too

Lily Mulholland said...

Holy shit! 42 comments!!! Aren't you the loved one Helen!

I reckon you'd get about $50 for it, unless you sold it at some architectural conference ;)

ursula said...

For your little house about $60-$80. But now would that include GST or not!
Lovely

Car said...

LOL @ Lily :)

I reckon $60 for a wallhanging. Although the time & effort spent wouldn't cover it.

Anyhow - I'd love a Quilt from Helen, so put me down twice :D

andrea creates said...

What a great prize-and even Hope Valley ;) Wow!
I'm in the USA so I do not know Australian dollars either-but I'd think you could get a good amount for it :)

Rose said...

Oh that is beautiful.

For a wall hanging I'd say around $65-$80, for one like that though with the detail, around $75-$90

Jo said...

Wow I love the way it turned out! I would probably price it at $50 BUT that is without knowing how many hours it took you, and when I price my own stuff I always factor an hourly rate into it. Hope that helps. Please stop by my blog to check out my giveaway too!

just adorable! I love house quilts and well little quilts in general! Somday I will have a wall of little quilts so your little quilt would be right at home with all the others. Sure would make me smile everytime I walked past my wall.
$50. would sell it right away but I would be willing to pay up to $75.00 USD though.
thanks for a wonderful giveaway

Cute! I have no idea on price, though!

Nichole said...

Love those awesome pink trees! I hope I can win a Helen-original. I would think you could get $60 for this.

jenj said...

I love this wall hanging.

As for price, that's a really tough question. I'm a quilter, so I know how much work something like this takes but I also could theoretically make it myself, which limits how much I would pay. $50 would probably be my absolute limit but I know that a lot of people would pay more than that.

Kat said...

Hi Helen, I think your quilts are priceless, however if you are talking retail if I saw it in a shop I would say between $60-$80. I think for this one I would pay more like $80 as I think the colours and the piecing is exquisite!

Thankyou for doing things like this. My nanna passed away at the beginning of the year, and she quilted. It reminded me of her, we just scattered her ashes on the weekend, and had a family picnic to remember her by. Its amazing that things like this keep on popping up to keep me thinking of all the wonderful things she did. Thankyou for reminding me of her...

I know that through your patchwork and sharing through patchwork the joy you bring people will go beyond just this month, year, decade and beyond. It will bring joy to many generations. Congratulations!

Cheers

I love this mini and it would look perfect on my sewing room wall. I'm not a good one to ask about price, because I always sew my own stuff, but I'd pay $50 US for it. Sorry I don't know the conversion rate for AU.

Fiona said...

Love this house wall hanging. Would love it in MY house even more!! Money can never be a measure of a quilts worth, but in Australia, I would probably advise of around $65. Thanks for the opportunity!! :^)

La Yen said...

Gorgeous. I would say $50-$60 AUS for sure.

wendiq said...

I would thing $40 American, however, that would not be worth your time......Unfortunately, with all the foreign offerings, the true value of handmade work, just is hard to get. It also depends on your market......."sewers" appreciate the work......now-sewing people do not...in most cases.....

Betsy said...

thank you for the chance to win. It is beautiful.I have no idea what to price it for. I struggle with that

definitely a beauty! I'd pay $100 for that...seriously

Alice R. said...

I don't know about Australian $, but in the US it matters greatly where you are selling it. The range here depending on the venue would be $40 to $60, I think. In our area, it's so hard to get what one's time is worth.

I think $60 to $80 is a good price. It really is difficult to price your own work isn't it. So much time goes into creating these pieces and then there is the cost of your materials. I love making suffolk puff bedspreads but I would never be able to sell them for a decent price, if I charged for my time making one of them it would cost at least $1700 (a price that no one is willing to pay) it is a shame because I would dearly love to make some original ones, I have some great ideas in my head for suffolk puff quilts.

What a fun quilt - it would look perfect in my sewing studio :D

So many crafters just don't seem to get paid properly for their intense labor - the pricing would likely depend on the selling venue. The more upscale the higher the price, whereas a flea market type booth would likely bring a substantially lower amount!

can't get more special, that's a true statement! but i wouldn't know how to give my opinon on the price, because i don't know the currencies, i'm from Portugal. also, i have never sold a work, but i think people should get paid for the criativity and the handmade work and all the love they put into the quilts and other pieces.

$60 - $75 sounds reasonable. I love it and would be happy to give the wall hanging a new home.

This is beautiful. I love the bold colors and the design. I am not sure about the Australian currency so I am unable to comment on that.

It is adorable! Don't know Aussie $$$, so can't help you there.... kwarmelink@gmail.com

This is gorgeous! To be honest, I don't know Australian dollar values, but I know that you should charge what you feel comfortable letting it go for. Be proud of your work, but not unreasonable, you know? It really is beautiful! jinglesells at gmail dot com

I am in love with this...so bright and fun. I think the $60 price is nice, and would suggest doing some lower intro-pricing specials to get interest up. Ooh! I hope I win!

I'm not sure of the Australian dollar, but I'd expect to pay at least $50 American. It is a beautiful little quilt that I'd love to win. I know exactly where we'd hang it!

I don't know how to convert Australian dollars to US, but I would pay $40-$50 US dollars for them. They are lovely.

Hi Helen, I've enjoyed reading your quilty adventures for a long time now. This mini is so cute! It's hard to say how much (US) I'd pay because as a sewist I'm always saying "I wouldn't buy that; I'll make it myself!" But this is extraordinary and certainly worth a lot. You have lovely work and precise sewing. Thanks for the giveaway, you do amazing pieces!!!

oh, tough questions...i am a cheapskate and have a tough time parting with money for things i try to rationalize with 'oh, i could make that msyelf'...you know what i mean? and would others appreciate your fine, OOP fabric choices? Ill say US$25 and i know that is low...probably too low, but im honestly trying to answer this for ya! tahnks for a chance.

So beautiful! I would love to hang it on my wall! I don't know how much I would pay, but if I worked that hard on a project, I'd charge an arm and leg for it.

It's beautiful. I love the colors! Hm, maybe 50 Australian dollars?

At least $40 (USD) - it's gorgous and you can tell that a lot of love and talent went into making it. I love your whimsical pink trees!

What a gorgeous piece! I would love to have it hanging in my office. Thanks for the chance... I would pay $60ish for a wallhanging. (That's in US dollars so I don't know what that translates into in Australian.) Thanks again.

Love this quilt! I'm not sure what the convertion rate is, but I would pay between $60 and $80 US for this.

Jessy said...

Okay, so I had to check a currency converter in order to give you my answer to your market research. This quilt is FABULOUS! I would probably pay as much as $60 AUS for it. But I do hope to win it!

I'd love to enter this contest. I honestly can't say how much I would pay for something like this because I am back in school and don't have any extra money (so I try not to shop). That being said, I would expect to pay a substantial amount for something handmade and so obviously artistic and well-constructed. thorandellie[at]gmail[dot]com

Small hangings like this are about $30 to $35 USD at the area artisan cooperative. Those that are really arty and little larger (add 6 inches each dimension) are priced up to $65 USD. Thank you for your wonderful prize of the little quilt. Please enter me into your giveaway. mlwright29 (at) hotmail (dot) com

I love it! I'm pretty cheap, but I would spring for it if I saw it at a farmer's market or craft show. I'd say $40 would woo me (American $s)... but like I say, I'm cheap!! :)
