Recycling Red Squares.

I'm recycling table runners. I've dragged this one out... Chopped one of the blocks down a bit and resewed it back together. From this...

...back in June last year. It was a baby quilt but then got chopped up to become two table runners.

I still have one stashed away in the emergancy present drawer.

And now I am quilting it. Straight up and down quilting. I was thinking about pebbles but it's so straight looking, the soft curves of all over pebble quilting would look odd.

Red Squares Runners.

It's nearly Christmas and its the season for bringing out all those table runners I made earlier this year to give away! I had forgotten about these two, they were cut from the quilt that wasn't meant to be, back here.

I quilted the lines with the free motion foot for a bit of extra waviness. That and I didn't fancy turning it around at the end of each line if I had used the walking foot. I used white thread for the white background but a verigated thread of different shades of red for the red area.

I'm happy with how they turned out. Christmas looking but not enough to be used at other times of the year I hope.

I like how the non quilted areas pop. I have already given one away and the other is wrapped under the tree waiting till we see the person it is intended for.

And at the final whole school assembley, guess who picked up the Art Award for Middle Primary? Grace! Go Gracie! Working at the school I knew about it in advance but said nothing to her and the look of amazement on her face when her name was called, was just priceless! So we are on school holidays now till the end of January. I hear my sewing machine calling me.

Let the Games Begin!

Well the Olympics have begun! Yahh! I am lucky that my sewing nook has a hole in the wall so I can view the action as I sew! See the horse in the background? The dressage event just confuses me, making the horse do all those maneuvers around. Is that a skill worthy of the Olympics? If its about controlling an animal, what about including sheep dog trials??

But anyway, I am quilting two table runners. I unpicked the three panals of this quilt and have made it into two runners. I wasn't happy with the design of that quilt, don't know what I'll do with the third panal. I'm doing "organic line" quilting on these, using my free motion foot to do lines instead of the walking foot. Its fun! In one of them I am doing pebble quilting, and the other is more lines. Back to the games!

The Red Robot Quilt

After the last post, this quilt top came together quickly. Lots of strips of white and trimming. I think I might rename this quilt the Red Robot. It reminds me of a robot somehow.

That big red one, the biggest one may be too big in hindsight but hey, I'm not unpicking it!

Red Squares!

It feels odd here this weekend. The girls have gone off on their first ever Girl Guides camp! My heart is going but Milly's only in year 2, she's too young!!!! But her best friend is going and her best friend's Mum is one of the leaders, they are only camping on a property a 5 minute drive from us, Grace is there and as Daz keeps telling me, she'll be fine! And she will, they were both so excitied this morning.

So that leaves me the whole weekend to work uninterupted on this project which shall now be known as the Red Square Quilt. Maybe I should branch out and sew other designs rather than squares but there is something about them.... I lay the blocks on the floor. Each has been framed with the same Kona solid, tomato I think?

Now I am starting to add white. Three rows of red squares, something like that, winging it as I go.
