Fridays Fabric Frenzy!

Thats it, not buying any more fabric for the rest of the month! Just got too much of it! Went to Spotlight this morning and picked up these goodies......

And still managed to forget the elastic I needed and some Vixofix. The brown flowery one in the middle is my favourite, the print at the bottom is quite detailed then at the top its different. Had to stock up on some plain colours as I have so much print stuff. Then thought I'd wander to my local op shop, I never usually have any luck there but today scored these two lovely ladies skirts!

They are both size 16, but thought I could cut them up to make a skirt for Grace. Shocking photo. More pink than red in real life. So all inspired I went home and got the scissors out. And look! I made this for Grace. Waistband is too tight, I'm not doing it right. Need some help!

Wow, that skirt looks fabulous on Grace! I have the same problem as you in choosing too many prints. They all look so much prettier than the plain ones. But I am becoming much braver and mixing prints these days, partly due to laziness as I just cannot be bothered going back to the store to get the matching plain fabrics.

How are you doing the elastic? Are you making a casing or stitching it in? It is much easier to adjust if it is in a casing. i usually cut the elastic to the waist measurement plus an inch to stitch it together. I hope that helps.

Karen! Nope, after today I am joining the no buying fabric for the rest of the month ban! I had jumped off the band wagon but I'm climbing back on!

Ingrid, wish I was in Sydney to get you to show me how to do it properly! Totally fudged this waistband, I did kinda case it in, turning it over, but then when I stitched it I stitched it to the fabric so it can't really stretch that much. I need practise!

OMG that skirt is just too cute:)
i love your spotlight buys too. Gorgeous. As for the elastic, i agree with ingrid. It is definatly easyer to measure the length of elastic (i just wrap it around charlee's waist and cut how much i need) then sew a casing and thread the elastic in. I have tried to sew elastic onto things a couple of times and it never quite works propperly.

Oooooh, cute skirt! And I love that fabric (brown with flowers) that you got from S/L.. I do my waist bands in a casing too.. much easier to do it that way.. Well done!!
