My Birthday and backing!

Was my 36th birthday yesterday, so no Wednesday WIP post. Although I did finish the final strip on my pinwheel quilt, so the top is all finished, which leads me to my current deliema! The backing! I want to use what I have in my stash, and I think this is the only peice I have suitable. What do you think? Works?? Its a Free Spirit print, from their Fleurish range. Maybe a touch too busy? Will the cream clash with the white? I was thinking on doing white binding but if I use this, it just won't work. Maybe green binding?

So, turned the big 36 yesterday! Only 4 years to the big 4-oh! Recieved a lovely new digital camera which I have been dreaming about for ages, has a nice big built in zoom! Love that! These pictures in this post are amungst the first I have taken, nice and crisp? Had a lovely day, mothers group in the morning as a usual Wednesday morning. The lovely Meredith made me a cake and I recieved a beautiful bunch of flowers. The kids played, we drank coffee! Home again for Milly to have her sleep, then I had to wake her at 3.30 so we could be at Grace's tap dancing lesson at 4. Its only her second lesson and she goes with her cousin, so bascially the two of them just giggle and stomp away for 45 minutes while my sister and I sit, watch and chat!

Then that night just the four of us went out for tea at our local child friendly tavern. Chips and lemonade for the girls and a big steak for me!

Sounds like you had a fantabulous birthday, just as you deserve! I love your pinwheel quilt and was eyeing off your new quilt pic banner down the side - inspiring!

I think the backing you have chosen works really well. It's not too busy! I would pick green or blue binding. Lovely work!

The pinwheel looks great! I personally don't really like that fabric for the back - I would choose a block colour or a pattern you already have in the quilt top like polka dots- but I'm pretty conservative!

Happy Birthday.

I also think the pattern back is too much. Too busy and wrong 'style' I say plain

Ok, you asked for honest opinion Helen, so here goes.

I personally prefer a plainer fabric for the backing (maybe polka dots, stripes or gingham?) as I think the pinwheel design is really lovely and the Free Spirit backing just distracts me eye from it.

Having said that, I know you love bright colour so that backing is really you.

Did I just contradict myself? Don't think I helped any.....

Go for what YOU like best. It seems the opinions are 50/50 on the backing so it is you to decide. Think of for whom the quilt is, how old, what character, ... and it will probably help to decide. I love the top at any rate, so bright.
And happy belated birthday! Take care.

Helen, I really like that backing, I think its fun, if you do use it I would go for a blue green or pink binding.

Hope that helps

Happy belated birthday, sounds like you had a nice day.

Very crisp photo from your new camera too, what did you get btw? I'm camera shopping at the moment.

Happy Birthday! Sounds like you had a fabulous time.

That backing is fine -- it's a) the back; b) a baby quilt. I'd say go with green anyway -- while some white is fine for a kid's quilt, white binding is the first place that would look too dirty. Green, hot pink if you have it, yellow, any of the pinwheel colors would look fabu!
