We have a new addition to the family! I picked up my "new" sewing cabinet won off ebay yesterday! Above is a shot of how I used to sew. Standing up at a bench, crammed inbetween the overlocker and my cutting mat. Have been looking at the Horn sewing cabinets by then found the one below on ebay, its by Singer. Didn't even know they made sewing cabinets! Played it cool and bid in the last hour and I was the only bidder so it was meant to be! Perfect size for the space I have, its in fantastic condition. When I asked the lady why she was selling it, she was about my age. She replied, "Oh I have a 3 and a 5 year old, I don't get time to sew!"
Can't wait to get stuck into it now. Its going to seem strange though sitting down but think I'll get used to that quick enough!

I'm not sure I understand the comment about not getting time to sew just because her kids are young.
Quite frankly, when my boys were smaller, sewing was the only thing that kept me sane! I *MADE* time to sew because it was important to me. Having a supportive husband helped... I think it is important for mom's to have interests outside of their children. I could continue in this vein for hours as this is a topic that I have thought about quite a bit....LOL.
BTW, congratulations on winning the cabinet, isn't it nice to have a great space in which you can comfortably work?
LOL Suzanne, I didn't understand her comment either. I just replied "oh, I have a 3 year old too" not to mention a younger child as well! Still, her loss, my gain! :)
Looks great! Are you still in the laundry?
Congrats Helen, it will be so nice for you to have an organised (sit down) area where you can sew, I'm watching a cabinet online myself at the moment, so keep your fingers crossed, we'll all be cabineted up soon.
Cheers Ingrid K.
Helen, it looks great and I feel much better that you will be saving your back now!
It looks great Helen. I find a lot of my friends make excuses of things they can't do cause of bubs too. I am like you and need MY time, and MY goals.
I too am pleased you will now be sitting down!
YAY Helen! It looks great.
Are you telling us that you sewed standing up?? Do you realise that the only reason all the (un)famous quilters like myself didn't feature on Simply Quilts is because we can't sew standing up!!
Seriously, I love the cabinet. I didn't know Singer made cabinets either. I like it that it seems the machine is closer to the edge than the Horn ones. When I covet a Horn cabinet I always tell myself that I will hate it because the machine will be too far away for me.
