My First Dresden Plate.

I saw this template on Lisa's blog awhile back and saw the groovy Dresden Plates she was doing and was inspired to get my hands on one of those templates and give it a try. So I cut into my Hope Valley and Kona stash which has been quietly sitting there on the shelf waiting for the right project.

Chain piecing it was fun. Turning the pieces inside out and getting the points to be pointy wasn't as much fun....

And so here we have my first ever Dresden Plate! Not bad for a first... It's not lying as flat as I hoped, I think I may have stretched it when I ironed it flat. Hoping Lisa can suggest a solution there!

May be the start of something for DQS#9, just maybe?

Well Done Helen!!

Looks good. Maybe a wet cloth and steaming it back down. Remember not to move anything till it has completely cooled so that the effect stays. Cherrie

I just made my first dresden plate a few weeks back. I used the same ruler and made a 4 inch plate. My dresden plate didn't lay flat either, especially in the center. I thought that I was really careful with all of the steps...

Do you know of any solutions? If so, I hope that they are included a future post.

I know this sounds like a pain but this might work to keep those plates laying flat. Use just a little spray starch on the back of your fabric before cutting. It will keep the fabric stable through the process. Worth a try.

Very cool colour combo, Helen! I had grand plans for a Dresden, bought 2 different templates, metres and metres of fabric and then stalled without even trying. Good on ya for taking it on! I will watch for the 'solution'!

Hurrah! I've never even made one...so you have me beat! I am planning something quite involved though with a different template for DQS. We'll see....

Just love the blue quilt. And this Dresden plate is so appealing. Just love your perfect fabrics - not sure about the getting it to lay flat thing - haven't made one before, but I'm sure someone will have some info...

I Love it - and the fabrics are gorgeous! I was thinking of trying a dresden for the DQS but was a bit daunted..but now I might have to give it a go! How big does it end up?
