Well I have finished my quilts for the flickr dolls quilt swap. I usually love sewing on the binding but I'll admit this was a struggle. My right hand and arm, my sewing hand, my mouse clicking button hand have been aching when I have sat at length to do any hand sewing. Like a dull burning ache up the veins. Ewwwww. Not all the time, just enough to be annoying. All those years of ceramic painting catching up with me? So usually what would take an evening in front of the telly, took about a week.
This one is smaller, measuring 18.5 inches square. The quilting was done with my walking foot by eye, hence some lines are closer to others.
This one is 21 inches square. The quilting is better on this one. I think this one should go to my swapee. But, I am hoping that either here on my blog or here in flickr my partner will say which they prefer and then I'll sew the label on and pop it in the post.
So swapee, which one??

I love them both!!! I sure wish I could do those geese. I MUST learn, I'm thinking......unless, I'm your partner, in which case, I'll take the little one. (If that's okay??) I LOVE it!!
I get achy hands too when sewing on the bindings. Isn't getting older, fun???
My dad always said "getting older's not for sissies!" The longer he's been gone, the more I find myself quoting him. Love both the quilts, Helen, someone's going to be very happy.
I love both quilts. The quilting looks like the air swirling around?
Try to rest your aching hand/arm? If something is inflamed..let it settle down? :)
Both are as stunning as anticipated - send the 'reject' here ;) I'd get your wrist checked. There may be something you can do about it - I speak from experience! To start with, get a trackball mouse and pop it on your left. You'll need to sit on your right hand for a while until you learn to to reach across and use it anyway!
so in case its me.. {i can dream right} i want the first one.. i like the less what space!
Feel free to send either one to me! Poor you and the arm - I get carpal tunnel a bit, since having the kids, but not as painful as yours sounds. Get thee to the doctor!
I love 'em both!
Well done. Hope your hand feels better soon.
Andi :-)
I love them both but if I was forced to choose I'd say the smaller one. Don't know why but I'm drawn to that more.
I like the second one best... m not sure why...
seriously my dqs7 is not this good..
im kinda freaked out about that.
These are both so beautiful!!
I have really enjoyed watching you work through the creative process and seeing these quilts take shape :-)
Oh oh oh, they are just fantastic!!!! Lucky recipient.
Sorry your hand is hurting! I've had my back get all stiff and go to my wrists like that - when I'm on the computer too much :(

Wonderful Helen. So glad you persevered with this design. Looks fabbo!
Well, if I'm your partner, I love them both. The top has a more dramatic binding however. I just love these geese! Hope your arm feels better soon--I hate that kind of ache.
Both are SO BEAUTIFUL! I can't see how you'd go wrong either way. I just keep looking at your quilts and all the great color, movement, and I love the quilting. They are treasures. You have a very lucky partner!!!
They are both stunning. Love them.
Beautiful work Helen.
Now, do you have time for some cooking? I have just tagged you for a recipe meme.
Wow! Helen, they are both beautiful!!! I have had some of the aching in my right arm lately too! I think changing the rotary blade helped some :-)... I guess I am just getting old!
oooooohhh. Those are fabulous! LOVE them both. If it's me! ;o) I'd love the smaller one. ;o)
Helen they look fantastic.
I love the way the quilting picks up the movement of the geese - I think everyone else said this too.
I really like the smaller one.
Wouldn't this look great with the geese forming a spiral - although probably very tricky!
Thanks for sharing the whole process with us!
Wow, those are awesome quilts! I absolutely love the rainbow colours and the flying geese :)
I just love this. . .it's my favorite block at the moment!
