A New Baby Quilt.

A friend at school this week announced she is pregnant. She had been away sick Monday and Tuesday and when I saw her Wednesday I asked if she was okay, she smiled shyly and said "I'm 4 months pregnant" I shreiked with joy, hugged her and started to get teary. I think her road to this baby has been difficult, I am so happy for her! So this morning I started making a quilt for the baby. Half of the blue about is from my scrap bucket, I don't know if it's a boy or a girl, was thinking about a rainbow colour theme to cover my bases, but then thought nope, I'll just make two, one blue and one pinkish.

Here are the first six blocks. I'm going to go for squares within squares, as usual maybe, but I love sewing them! Six rows of four blocks, sashed with white, sort of a smaller version of this Blue Squares quilt, one of my favourite quilts I have ever made. Maybe just a hint of orange this time.

I love those splashes of orange, red, and pink. What a fun way to welcome a new person into the world.

How fun! I'm sure your friend will be thrilled. You could wait to find out the sex (if she is going to?) before you make it so you only need to make one, you know.

Helen you have helped me make up my mind about a similar situation. My eldest DD is pregnant with our first grandchild and I want to start making quilts and other lovely stuff. Not knowing if it's a boy or girl has stopped me. Now I will do what you have and make two. There is always someone who needs a baby quilt. Will keep an eye out for your progress.

You're such a wonderful friend. How great to be so excited for her that you came home and started a quilt just like that. Have fun!
